Always use in the direction of the coat. 

Pro tip 

To prevent post-grooming furunculosis, occurring on back neck or tail, with heavily matted pets, use after bathing process and avoid overbrushing excessively matted areas that may have underlying inflammation before entering salon. This tool was not designed to work on pelted coats.
